David R. Atkinson, age 84, of Rockford and formerly of Amboy, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, at Lorretto Hospital in Chicago.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Oct. 5, 2007, at 2 p.m. at the Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy with the Rev. David Vogel, associate pastor at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Amboy, officiating. Burial followed in St. Patrick Cemetery in Amboy with Military Honors by the Amboy American Legion. Visitation was on Friday from 1 p.m. until time of service in the funeral home.

Mr. Atkinson was born Feb. 25, 1923, in Amboy, the son of Robert and Sarah (Hollister) Atkinson. He married Zeita Mahan McGee Nov. 27, 1968 in Davenport, Iowa. She preceded him in death Sept. 6, 1979.

He is survived by four nephews and three nieces.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine Kloth and Iola Plume; and three brothers, William, James and George Atkinson.

He was a veteran of the Army during WW II.
