DIXON - On Sept. 29, Raynor and its employees helped the United Way of Lee County kick off its 55th fundraising campaign with a donation of nearly $38,000. About $33,000 came from Raynor employees and $5,000 came from a corporate gift.
At the event, Midland States Bank of Dixon also announced a $10,000 gift from its employees and corporate. A bonus gift of $1,500 came from volunteers to the Mumford and Sons concert.
"It's a great start," said Katie Dallam-Pratt, board president. "With so many people out of work, the need for the United Way and our agencies may be greater than ever before."
The donations were announced at the United Way kick-off held at the Town Square Center parking lot during the Dixon Main Street Scarecrow Festival. The event also featured a chili cook-off, bags tournament, dunk tank, kids' activities, and entertainment.
The goal for the 2012 campaign is $440,000 to be allocated to 28 non-profit agencies serving Lee County. The campaign, which has now reached 11 percent of goal, runs through Nov. 9.
More than 88 percent of each donation goes directly to agencies, and 99 percent of all funding stays in Lee County. Contributions can be made online at unitedwayofleecounty.org or mailed to United Way of Lee County, P.O. Box 382 in Dixon.
