MENDOTA - Roland J. Zimmerman, 101, of Mendota died July 31, 2012 at the Mendota Lutheran Home.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Aug. 4 at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Compton with Rev. Jamie Wallace officiating. Burial was at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Compton. Visitation was 5-8 p.m. on Aug. 3 at the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota.
Mr. Zimmerman was born Nov. 4, 1910 in Welland to John and Mary (Bauman) Zimmerman. He married Gladys Florschuetz on April 30, 1941, in Immanuel Lutheran Church of Compton.
Survivors include his wife of Mendota; one daughter, Diane (Ryall) Wilson of San Diego, Calif.; two sons, Tom Zimmerman of St. Charles and Leslie (Anna) Zimmerman of Clinton, Ind.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Mabel; and three brothers, George, John and Arthur.
Mr. Zimmerman served as mayor of Compton and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Compton. He and his brother, Arthur, started an oats processing business in Welland in 1934 and a livestock feed business in 1937. They further expanded in 1961 by building Fasco Feed Mill on U.S. 34 in Mendota. Roland served as operations manager of the business.
