SUBLETTE - Lucille Mary Auchstetter Becker, 90, of Sublette, passed away Aug. 13, 2012, at the Serenity Home in Oregon.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Aug. 17, 2012, beginning with a 10 a.m., prayer service in the Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m., in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Sublette with the Rev. Joel Lopez, Pastor, officiating. Burial followed in St. Mary Cemetery in Sublette. Visitation was held on Thursday, Aug. 16, from 2 until 4 and 6 until 8 p.m., in Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy with the Rosary recited at 7:30 p.m. Visitation was also held on Friday from 9 until 10 a.m., in the funeral home.
Mrs. Becker was born Jan. 2, 1922, the eldest of three children born to John Andrew and Mary (Thealen) Auchstetter. Lucille married Melvin Becker on Dec. 1, 1945, after his return from military duty in Europe. They lived in Maytown for 15 years before moving to Wisconsin. In 1978 they purchased the Bettendorf farm in Sublette and built a new home there.
Survivors include six children, Allan (Val) Becker of Rockford, Gerald (Carol) Becker of Littleton, Colo., Loren (Sherry) Becker of Flower Mound, Texas, Ronald (Janet) Becker of East Troy, Wisc., Mary Lee (Gregg) Dogwiler of Dixon, and Cheryl (Louie) Leffelman of Amboy; 21 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister Dolores Gordon of Sterling; sister-in-law Pat (Cliff) Becker of Napa Valley, Calif.; and brother-in-law Jim Dickinson of Dixon.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Aug. 7, 1996; granddaughter Danielle Becker; grandson Chris Casale; brother John Auchstetter Jr.; and son-in-law Steve Byrnes.
She had attended Sublette and Amboy schools, graduating from Amboy High School in 1939.
Lucille was employed by Republic Home Builders in Chicago, before working as a private secretary to Ben Pabst, Operations Manager of Stewart Warner Corp., until the fall of 1945 when operations ceased.
She was active in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Sublette, and the St. Anne Sodality, where she had served as Treasurer. She was also a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters.
She was a member of the Lee County Lady Bowlers, and later was a member of the Sublette Country Square Dancers.
A memorial has been established to the Serenity Home in Oregon.
