ELYRIA, Ohio - Marilyn Collins (nee Hunter), 78, of Elyria, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at the Cleveland Clinic following a short illness.

The family received friends on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m., in the Dovin Funeral Home, Lorain, Ohio. Funeral services were Saturday at 9 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by mass at 9:30 a.m., at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Elyria, Ohio. The Rev. Donald H. Dunson, pastor, officiated. Burial followed in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, Ohio.

Mrs. Collins was born Aug. 27, 1934, in Lorain, Ohio and she settled in Elyria, Ohio in 1962.

Survivors include her sons, Thomas Jr. of Elyria, Ohio, Jerome of Elyria, Ohio, James (Laura) of Lorain, Ohio, and Robert (Theresa) of Middleburg Heights, Ohio; a daughter, Sharon (Jim) Phelps of Amboy,; grandchildren, Deborah, Magan, Caitlin, Sean, James, Abigail, Victoria, Sophie, Aaron, Delaney, and Aidan; a brother, Walter J. (Charlotte) Hunter of Tampa, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Thomas J. Collins Sr. in 1991; parents, Walter and Josephine (nee Estok) Hunter; and a daughter-in-law, Margaret Collins in 1997.

She graduated from Brookside High School and then from St. Alexis Hospital School of Nursing in 1955.

She worked as a nursing supervisor at Elyria Methodist Home from 1975 until her retirement. Prior to that, she worked at St. Joseph Hospital on the maternity unit for 20 years.

She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Elyria, Ohio, and the former Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Lorain, Ohio, AARP and Golden Agers.

She enjoyed traveling, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.
