Valaria J. Zimmerman

MENDOTA - Valaria J. Zimmerman, 90, of Mendota died May 29, 2012 at the Mendota Lutheran Home.
Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on June 2 at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Compton with Rev. Jamie Wallace officiating. Burial was at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation was for one hour prior to services on June 2 at the church. Arrangements were handled by the Merritt Funeral Home.
Mrs. Zimmerman was born Oct. 11, 1921 in Lee Center Township to John and Sadie (Hoerner) Mahaffey. She married Urban Zimmerman on Dec. 7, 1940 at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Survivors include one son, Gerald (Karen) Zimmerman of Menomonee, Wis.; two grandchildren, Kathryn (Steven) Richter and Robert (Tosha Larson) Zimmerman; three great grandchildren; and two brothers, John “Bud” Mahaffey of LaMoille and Donald (Nancy) Mahaffey of Peru.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Noah; and one sister, Velva.
Mrs. Zimmerman was a 1938 graduate of Mendota High School. She was a 4-H leader and a member of Home Extension. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Compton where she sang in the church choir. She was interested in painting, antiques and needlework.
