Posted: Tuesday, Nov 13th, 2012

SUBLETTE - The Sublette Village board meeting was held Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, at the Ellice Dinges Center with all members present.

Theresa Wilson, village treasurer, advised that a CD was coming due. The board approved renewing it for 30 months at .90 percent interest.

Test, Inc., report indicated 14 locates and five meters still to be replaced. Village president John Stenzel reminded everyone that any complaints regarding water should be made directly to Test, Inc.

Don Dinges, Economic Development Coordinator, reported that he has worked with the Lee County Tourism Council to get the 2013 events in the Lee County Calendar of Events. This may be the last year for the printed calendar as there is a possibility it will go on the Internet instead. He also received a packet from the Lee County Tourism Council showing advertising they have done for the Village of Sublette events.

Dinges has met with the Christmas Walk Committee to make plans for "Christmas in the Village." He has had calls with questions about the toy show and Christmas Walk craft show.

Dinges has also attended the National Farm Toy Show in Dyersville, Iowa and distributed Toy Show flyers at the show. He has talked with the Minneapolis Moline Collectors about the 2013 show of which they will be featured. They will possibly hold their convention at that time in Sublette.

There will be no license plates for the 2013 show. The whole process has become too much of a hassle with the state.

There is a new beauty shop in town and he has met with the owner to set up a time to present a flag.

The Roemmich Resort Homes report advised that, depending on the weather, they might mow one more time. They are trying to keep the brush pile down.

After discussion, the board approved the purchase of a fence for around Sublette Centennial Park from Illinois Valley Fence Co. in the amount of $16,000. Weather will play a part in how soon the fence can be erected.

The Mendota Wrestling Club has inquired about renting the EDC gym for one or two nights per week. They have insurance and will roll up their mats each time and they will be placed so that they will not conflict with other rentals of the gym. The board agreed to rent the gym and washroom facilities to the club for $40 for one night or $60 for two nights.

Village president John Stenzel again announced that petitions are available for the April 2013 election. Openings are for village president, clerk, and three trustees.

Under unfinished business, the West First Street project is finished until spring and a payment of $120,392.91 was agreed by the board to be paid for work finished so far.

Work is still being done to make sure the gas line is disconnected to the property at 109 W. Main Street that is slated for demolition.

Under new business, the board approved the 2012-2013 budget for $670,000. They also approved the Posting of the Tax Levy, which is the same as last year.

The board approved the licensing of video poker machines ordinance, limiting it to no more than five machines.

Date reminders: Dec. 7, 2012, Christmas in the Village; Dec. 10, 2012, village board meeting, 7 p.m.

With no further business or comments, the meeting was adjourned.
