FRANKLIN GROVE - James Murray O'Brien, 83, of Franklin Grove, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, at the Franklin Grove Living and Rehabilitation Center.

Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, at 10:30 a.m., in St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dixon with the Rev. John Gow officiating. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon. Visitation was held on Sunday, Nov. 25, at the Holloway Center at St Patrick Catholic Church from 3 until 7 p.m.

Mr. O'Brien was born June 17, 1929, in Dundee, the son of Murray and Mary (Mullarky) O'Brien. He married Donna Payne on June 14, 1952, in Harmon. She preceded him in death on June 21, 2001.

Survivors include eight daughters, Mary Jane (Keith) Shaw of Amboy, Linda (Peter) Bagnuolo of Wheaton, Bev (Tom) Lally of Sebastian, Fla., Janet (Brett) Mariani of Bloomington, Pat (Joe) Lachat of Franklin Grove, Karen (Tom) Cecchetti of Bolingbrook, Diane (Jeff) Roop of Franklin Grove, Jackie (Jeff) James of Marengo; one son, Dan (Chris) O'Brien of Dixon; 19 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Fran Hume of Madison, Wis.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and stepmother Bella McQueen O'Brien; a grandson Timothy O'Brien; brothers William and Russell O'Brien; and sisters Marge Phoenix, Dorothy Nelson, and Mary Juby.

He had been a truck driver for 62 years most recently driving for Maplehurst Farms.

He enjoyed trucking, restoring cars, playing cards, and was known for telling many jokes.

A memorial has been established to Franklin Grove Living and Rehabilitation Center.
