AMBOY - The Amboy Clipper wrestlers took second place in the team standings of their own Amboy Varsity Tournament on Jan. 12 at the AHS gym.
Three Clipper matmen captured first-place honors. Andrew Ferguson posted a 2-0 record at 120 pounds, Dallas Appleman claimed three straight wins at 170 pounds and Travis Westenfelt was victorious in both of his matches at 195 pounds.
Three Amboy wrestlers also finished second. They included Trever Ullrich (1-1 at 126), Jason Bontz (1-1 at 152) and Jackson Sorrells (2-1 at 182).
Also placing for the Clippers were Andrew Klein (4th place at 160 with a 4-2 record), Ryon Richardson (5th place at 132 with a 2-2 record) and Christopher Jones (6th place at 138 with a 3-3 record).
Other competitors for Amboy were Ashley Temes (0-2 at 106), Skyelar Zimmerly (0-2 at 145) and Christian Peterson (0-2 at 285).
Eureka won the team championship with 163.5 points, followed by the Clippers with 142 and St. Bede with 101. The rest of the field included Durand (98), Rockford Jefferson (97.5), Genoa-Kingston (91), Chicago King (88.5), Midland (64), North Boone (64), Ashton-Franklin Center (39), Chicago Dusable (39), Ottawa Marquette (32) and Aledo-Mercer County (19).
