CREVE COEUR, Mo. - Joan Marie O'Brien-Ward, 81, of Creve Coeur, Mo., formerly of Mendota, died Jan. 11, 2013 in Creve Coeur.
Mass of Christian burial was held at 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 16 at Holy Cross Church, Mendota with Fr. John J. O達rien and Fr. Fredi Gomez Torres officiating. Burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery, Mendota. Visitation was from 4-7 p.m. on Jan. 15 at the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota.
Mrs. Ward was born June 29, 1931 in Chicago to Elmer and Lillian O樽alley. She married John V. O達rien Jr. on June 9, 1951 in Park Ridge. He preceded her in death on Oct. 25, 1978. She then married Joseph Ward in 1998. He preceded her in death in 2002.
Survivors include four sons, John (Renee) O達rien of Creve Coeur, Mo., Michael (Angie) O達rien of Freeport, Patrick (Susan) O達rien of Weldon Spring, Mo. and Larry (Renae) O達rien of Adel, Iowa; one daughter, Jean O達rien of Creve Coeur, Mo.; 17 grandchildren, Fr. John J. O達rien, Matthew O達rien, Christopher O達rien, Joseph O達rien, Joseph O達rien, Mary O達rien, Patrick G. O達rien, Brian Fox, Michael Fox, Sean Fox, Katie Fox, Michael O達rien, Megan O達rien, Patrick J. O達rien, Keegan O達rien, Connor O達rien, Jack O達rien and Emily O達rien; four great grandchildren; three brothers, James and Patrick (Sandra) O樽alley of Whispering Pines, N.C. and Edward (Noreen) O樽alley of Ocala, Fla.; and one sister, Kathryn O樽alley of Tehachapi, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands and one daughter, Rose Marie Fox in 2005.
Mrs. Ward attended St. Theresa College in Winona, Minn. and Loyola University in Chicago. She worked as school secretary at Holy Cross School in Mendota from 1970-96. She retired to Cherokee Village, Ark. where she volunteered as a school secretary at Lumen Christi Academy for several years.
