LA MOILLE - Ivon J. Sharkey, 81, of 29429 Rt. 92, LaMoille died Feb. 1, 2013 at St. Margaret’s Hospital, Spring Valley.
Mass of Christian burial was held at 11 a.m. on Feb. 5 at St. Patrick’s Church, Arlington with Rev. Patrick Fixsen officiating. Burial was at Valley Memorial Park, Spring Valley with military services conducted by Ladd American Legion. Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. on Feb. 4 at Hurst Funeral Home, Ladd and from 10 a.m. until the time of mass Feb. 5 at the church.
Mr. Sharkey was born Nov. 1, 1931 in Maytown to William and Frances (Gugerty) Sharkey. He married Sharon Thompson on Sept. 6, 1964.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Becky Sharkey of Peru and Paula (Ed) Eubanks of Thomson; two sons, Brian Sharkey at home and Mark (Judy) Sharkey of Columbia; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Milaicki of Peru and Cody (Levi) Henson of White Bluff, Tenn.; two grandsons, Erik Milaicki of Peru and Jacob Sharkey of West Jordan, Utah; five step-grandchildren; three great-grandsons; several step-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Elaine Routh of Grand Rapids, Mich.
He was preceded in death by one son, Michael; one brother, Patrick; and one sister, Marie McCoy.
Mr. Sharkey attended Dixon High School and earned his general education diploma and some college credits while serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a 56-year member of the Operating Engineers. He served as a business agent for many years and later was an assistant coordinator for the apprenticeship improvement program and Hazmat training. He also served on the Training Sites Board. He was a member of the retirees club in District 1 and 5, Walnut Masonic Lodge 722, Amaranth Chapter 290 of Order of the Eastern Star and Operating Engineers Square Club. He attended St. Patrick’s Church in Amboy.
