MENDOTA - Richard “Rich” Becker, 70, of Mendota died Feb. 7, 2013 at Community Hospice Bailey Center in St. Augustine, Fla. after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16 at First United Methodist Church in Mendota. Luncheon will follow.
Mr. Becker was born July 21, 1942 in Mendota to Theodore and Wilhelmina Becker. He married Cheryl “Chick” Martin on Sept. 30, 1967.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Catherine (John) McDowell; two granddaughters, Hope and Eve; two grandsons, Calvin Becker and Cody Baele of Annawan; four siblings, Darlene Spriet of Mendota, Sylvia (Gerald) Leffleman of Sublette, Donald (Maureen) Becker of Mendota and Joyce (Wesley) Gillian of Cherry; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, Anthony “Tony” in 1992.
Mr. Becker was a graduate of Mendota High School and served in the U.S. Army. He had many hobbies and talents. He loved restoring cars and trucks and was a very talented woodworker. He put his talent to work when he started his career at Elsesser and Schmidt, where he worked until he and Ray Motter started Becker and Motter Construction of Mendota. He was a member of the Mendota Elks and Mendota Moose. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and often made time to enjoy his love of fishing in Bellevue, Iowa. His smile, laugh and protective nature will be greatly missed by all.
