AMBOY – Joanne M. Bennett, 70, of Amboy, died Friday, March 22, 2013, at KSB Hospital in Dixon.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at 7 p.m., in the Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy with the Rev. Charles Jeanblanc officiating. Cremation rites will follow with burial of cremains at a later date in Prairie Repose Cemetery in Amboy. Visitation was held Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m., in the funeral home.

Mrs. Bennett was born Jan. 30, 1943, in Amboy, the daughter of Leonard and Frieda (Steder) Leffelman. She married Jessie Lee Bennett in Dixon on June 22, 1973. He preceded her in death on Nov. 25, 2008.

Survivors include her sister Mary Hackbarth of Amboy; two brothers, Dave Leffelman of Amboy and Randy (Karen) Leffelman of Naperville; one sister-in-law, Jeannie Leffelman of Lostant; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and –nephews, and special friends Wilma and Tuffy, Marilynda and Dave, and Brenda.

She was also preceded in death by a sister Diane Nielsen and a brother Norman Leffelman.

She had worked at Admiral in Dixon and was a waitress for many local restaurants including Zimmers, Victory, and Shari-Jo’s. She then worked as activities director for Mapleside Manor in Amboy and Rock Island Convalescent Center. Most recently she worked for K & the 4 Sisters Variety Store in Higden, Ark.

She enjoyed camping, playing bingo, crocheting and making loom rugs. She also enjoyed trips to the casino.

A memorial has been established.
