K. Trupp brings home more medals from state track meet

Posted: Tuesday, Jun 25th, 2013

Katie Trupp at state track meet.

BURLINGTON Katie Mae Trupp, daughter of Dave and Danette (Kessel) Trupp of Plato Center and granddaughter of Bern and Fran Kessel of Amboy, has won five state track medals in three years for Burlington Central High School.

Katie would have had the chance at seven medals at state but her junior year, after competing with a broken foot at the conference meet to be conference champion and leading her team to state, was unable to compete because of her broken foot.

In her recently completed senior year, Trupp came in second at state in the pole vault with a height of 12 feet and second in high jump with an effort of 5-6.

She was MVP for two of her four years at Burlington Central. Her junior year at the Hononegah meet she was MVP and this year at Oregon she was MVP.

At Burlington Central she broke freshman-sophomore pole vault and high jump records. Her senior year she tied the pole vault record and broke the high jump and long jump records. She was consistent in earning 200 or more points for her team in competition.

Trupp also is a two-time national qualifier in the AAU, which is an Amateur Summer Track and Field for young athletes.

Her Grandpa Kessel is an avid fan of Katie and has followed all her meets and accomplishments over the last several years in junior high and high school.

Trupp will attend Southern Illinois University in the Fall and her Grandpa is looking forward to following her academic and athletic accomplishments over the next four years.
