New staff members join Amboy schools

AMBOY Nine new certified staff members have joined Amboy School Disstrict 272 for the 2013-2014 school year.

Kyla Brenneman

School/subject: Sixth grade math and science.

Previous experience: Lincoln Junior High, Naperville.

Education: Illinois State University.

Hobbies/pets: Volleyball, soccer, hockey.

Jason Brown

School/subject: Guidance counselor.

Education: University of Arizona-BA in psychology.

Family: Spouse Sarah Alvarez-Brown, Sophia, 12, Sam, 9, Jacob, 7.

Hobbies/pets: Golf, movies, family time, running, three dogs, four cats, one turtle, 20 chickens.

Comments: Born and raised in Tucson, Ariz.

Megan Bus

School/subject: Amboy High School English.

Previous experience: Student taught.

Education: University of Nebraska-Lincoln-BA, North Central College-teaching certification.

Hobbies/pets: Reading, traveling, spending time with family and friends.

Shauna Dinges

School/subject: Amboy Jr. High math and current events.

Previous experience: Taught business math and accounting classes at Sauk Valley Comm. College.

Education: NIU-bachelors and masters in accounting, National Louis University-masters in teaching.

Family: Spouse Dan, Kennedy, 16, Mychala, 13, Olivia, 9.

Hobbies/pets: black Lab-Vader

Amanda Hopkins

School/subject: Second grade

Previous experience: First year teaching

Education: Northern Illinois University, bachelors degree in elementary education.

Family: My parents, Tim and Deb Hopkins, live in Amboy. My brother, Adam, is 25 and is a high school Spanish teacher at Mid-Prairie High School in Wellman, Iowa.

Hobbies/pets: I love to scrapbook and take pictures. I have two dogs, Jake and Callie.

Comments: I am really excited to be coming back to my hometown to start my teaching career.

Heather Jurs

School/subject: Amboy High School social studies.

Previous experience: Student teaching-Winnebago Middle School.

Education: Northern Illinois University (May 2013) BA geography, GIS Certificate, history minor, Type 09 Social Studies Certificate.

Hobbies/pets: Softball coaching, cake decorating, two cats.

Abbey Kelly

School/subject: Third and fourth grade math and homebound tutoring.

Previous experience: Student teaching in Rock Island.

Education: Bachelors in elementary education at Saint Ambrose University, Davenport, Iowa.

Family: Husband, Joe, is retiring from U.S. Army and is looking forward to moving back to the area.

Hobbies/pets: Running, gardening and spending time with family.

Melissa Mills

School/subject: Amboy High School business.

Previous experience: Student taught in Mendota.

Education: Bachelors in business admin from Edinboro Univ. of PA, masters secondary education, University of Phoenix.

Family: Three daughters, Brittney, 25, Tiffany, 24, Cortney, 23; one grandson, Jude, 3.

Hobbies/pets: Boating, swimming and traveling.

Amy Schwamberger

School/subject: Central elementary K-2 special education.

Previous experience: LaMoille CUSD #303-Van Orin Elementary as K-3 special Ed/K-3 general music teacher.

Education: BME-therapy from University of Kansas, M.S. Ed. in special education from NIU.

Family: husband, George, son Kelton, 9.

Hobbies/pets: three-year-old golden retriever Starr, music, singing, reading.

Comments: I am very excited to be working in the Amboy School District.
