AMBOY – The Sixth Annual Friends of the Poor® Walk/Run to benefit the needy and those living in poverty in the Amboy area will be held Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, starting from St. Patrick Catholic Church Hall, 23 N. Jones, Amboy. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m., and the walk starts at 12 p.m. T-shirts are given out to those participating. A free lunch and fellowship will follow the walk.
The St. Patrick – Amboy Conference of The Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) is a Catholic lay organization of more than 690,000 men and women throughout the world who voluntarily join together to grow spiritually and offer person-to-person aid to the needy and those living in poverty in 142 countries on six continents. With the U.S. headquarters in St. Louis, Mo., membership in the United States totals 146,000 people in 4,600 communities. National sponsors of this year’s walk are Ascension Health and Catholic Financial Life.
The walk is fun, there are no administrative fees, and all proceeds will directly benefit the people in Amboy and surrounding area. SVdP programs include housing assistance, disaster relief, clothing, transportation, and utility costs, home visits, care for the elderly, medicine, and youth outreach.
