Posted: Tuesday, Nov 12th, 2013

Grandparents enjoy visiting with their third grade grandchildren.

AMBOY - Central School PTC hosted a Scholastic Book Fair during the week of Nov. 4-8, in Central School's gym. Part of Central School's mission is "Parents, Staff & Community helping All Children Succeed," and the book fair exemplifies all working together to promote reading. Local businesses contributed to the book fair, they include The First National Bank of Amboy, Jones Funeral Home, Hummel Farms, W.G. Leffelman, Hochstatter & Fox, Dreamscapes, Leffelman and Associates, and Dimond Brothers Insurance. Casey's, Amboy Shell, and Sublette BP allowed "All for Books" donation boxes.

Nineteen parent volunteers worked numerous shifts to provide shopping opportunities for student and community shoppers. VIP's were invited in to have lunch with students and shop at the book fair each day. Shoppers who spent over $50 were placed in a drawing to win a gift certificate to Barnes and Noble. The committee co-chairs organizing the event were Katie Dallam-Pratt and Rebecca Curl.

Teachers shopped with students and also worked with PE to host classes in their rooms during the book fair. Classrooms compete in filling in a Blingo Card for a classroom reward. Each classroom will have a winner for guessing closest to the number of jewels in a jar. Winners receive their choice of a poster.

Kitchen staff worked diligently to provide lunches for students and their VIP guests.

The Book Fair is an excellent example of parents, staff and community working together for the students.
