Amboy harriers race at BV Invite

WALNUT – The Amboy High School cross country runners competed in the Bureau Valley Invitational on Sept. 18 at Walnut.

In the varsity boys’ race, the Clippers took fourth place in the team standings with 112 points. The top three teams were Sandwich (95), Newman (97) and Elmwood (110). Rock Falls scored 149 points to complete the top five. There were 15 teams.

The Clippers’ Brock Loftus took the second-place position in the race with a time of 16:04.8. Only Mason Stoeger of Minonk Fieldcrest finished ahead of him, winning the event with a clocking of 15:39.8. Ian Eller also had an impressive showing for the Clippers, taking sixth place in 17:00.7.

Six other Amboy runners participated in the event. They were Charlie Dickinson (35th, 18:16.5), Wyatt Lundquist (54th, 19:01.2), Andruw Jones (55th, 19:01.9), Kelton Schwamberger (63rd, 19:27.6), Garrett Pertell (66th, 19:38.6) and Ryan Dickinson (85th, 20:26.7).

In the girls’ competition, five Lady Clippers took part in the event. Lauren Althaus was the first AHS runner to cross the finish line in 24th place overall with a time of 21:09. Next in for the Lady Clippers was Elly Jones in 36th at 22:05.1, followed by Bailey Ellis (99th, 25:33.1), Addison Pertell (117th, 26:39.3) and Natalie Pratt (120th, 26:44.5).

Evelyn Connor of Seneca won the race in a time of 19:22.5.

Aledo Mercer County took the top position in the team standings with 110 points. The rest of the top five included Chillicothe IVC (133), Seneca (143), Sherrard (144) and Elmwood (195). Amboy was 15th with 337 points. There were 19 teams.

The boys’ freshman-sophomore race was won by Erie with 28 points. Amboy runners were Atticus Horner (6th, 15:05.6), Hayden Zacharias (21st, 16:20.5) and Jaden Haley (42nd, 17:42.5).
