Clippers split double-header with AFC

AMBOY — The Amboy Clippers split a double-header with Ashton-Franklin Center on May 10 at Ashton.

In game one, the game went eight innings before Amboy erupted for six runs in the top of the eighth to claim a 14-6 victory.

Lane Boehle had four hits for Amboy and also was the winning pitcher in relief. Preston Henkel and Andruw Jones also had multi-hit games.

In the nightcap, AFC picked up an 11-2 win over the Clippers. It was a 5-2 game through six innings before AFC broke it open with six runs in the seventh on a combination of hits and Amboy errors.

Joe Ackert and Henkel had two hits apiece for the Clippers.

Brady Jones was the losing pitcher.

Amboy claimed a 5-2 victory at Polo on May 11.

The Clippers scored two runs in the first and added one in the fifth, while Polo plated a run in the fourth. Amboy put up two big insurance runs in the seventh to secure the win.

Ian Eller pitched 6 2/3 innings and controlled Polo’s offense to earn the win. Caden Wittenauer came in to get the final out.

On offense, Henkel rapped out two hits, while Ackert had an RBI single.

Polo and Amboy hooked up again on May 13 in Amboy and the Clippers won a slugfest, 15-13.

The Clippers banged out 12 hits in the contest, with Boehle picking up three singles and driving in three runs. Brady Jones helped out with two singles and four RBI, while Eller stroked pair of singles and drove in one.

Tucker Lindenmeyer pitched five innings for Amboy and Caden Wittenauer finished up on the hill.

Amboy improved its records to 3-4 overall and 3-3 in the conference.
