DIXON — James L. Ligtenberg, 78, of Dixon, died Friday, June 4, 2021 at Heritage Health Walnut. 

He was born Nov. 15, 1942 in Pierre, S.D., the son of Gerrit and Florence (Star) Ligtenberg.

Jim had been a blacksmith and volunteer firefighter in South Dakota and then worked at Henry Pratt Company and Craigs Equipment in Dixon prior to his retirement. He was a member of the NRA and the Dixon Elks Club and helped build their current building.

Jim married Geraldine "Jeri" Brink on June 27, 1963 in Harrison, S.D. She preceded him in death Dec. 22, 2007. He was also preceded in death by his parents, grandson Travis Ligtenberg, and granddaughter Kristen Hanrahan. Jim was also preceded in death by one brother, Robert Ligtenberg, and three sisters, Eileen Vanzee, Phyllis Dehei, and Ruby DeVries.

Jim is survived by his children, Darla Mallory of New Iberia, La., Mary (Pat) Hanrahan, of Delmar, Iowa, Dale (Katie) Ligtenberg, of Amboy, and Lowell (Amy) Ligtenberg, of Dixon; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Mike (Evalou) Ligtenberg, of Mitchell S.D.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., on Friday June 11, 2021 at the Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy with a sharing of memories at 7 p.m.

Burial of cremains will be at Emmanuel Cemetery in Dixon.

Memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer/Dementia Association.
