Lee County 4-Fair and Junior Show open for entries

LEE COUNTY — The 2021 Lee County 4-H Fair and Junior Show will be held July 22-25 at the Lee County 4-H Center and Fairgrounds on IL Route 30 just north of Amboy. The four-day event features events for everyone including a full grandstand line-up of tractor/truck pulls, garden tractor pulls, the Broken Horn Rodeo, live music, and the popular County Fair Speedway.  

The Lee County Fair Association is also accepting entries for the 2021 Junior Show. The junior show is open to youth ages 8 to 20, as of Sept. 1, 2020. Project departments include all livestock and small animals, as well as visual arts, mechanical sciences and crops. Visual arts projects can be any art project created using paper, fiber, metal, mixed media, cake decorating, natural materials, etc.  Mechanical sciences projects include model rocketry, electricity projects, woodworking and computer work. Youth need not be 4-H members to participate.  Visit www.leecounty4hcenter.com to find the online entry form and department and class descriptions.  Entries are due July 1.  

In addition to daily judging and livestock shows, free activities are available on the grounds:  Kids’ Korners, bingo, a magic show, pedal pull, big wheel races, pony rides and a petting zoo.   

Broken Horn Rodeo is open to local riders. Call in entries July 20, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CST to 1-334-42-RODEO.  Local entries must call this number on July 20 during the listed times.  Registrations will not be accepted any other time. Kids, ages nine and under, can try their hand at the stick horse rode.  

Returning to the fair schedule is the Marketplace featuring local crafters, artisans, farmer’s market vendors, and home-based business products. The Marketplace is open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 25. Spaces are available. Contact the fair office via Facebook or at 815-857-2603.
