AMBOY – After being shut out by Mendota in the first game of the season, the bats of the Amboy baseball team have come alive.

The Clippers blew out Newark, 17-3, on Wednesday, March 13 in Newark and snuck past Bureau Valley, 6-5, on Friday, March 15.

In the Newark rout, AHS lead-off hitter Landon Whelchel scored four runs and was 3-of-4 at the plate with a double, two singles, and a walk.

The senior wasn’t the only Clipper to score multiple runs as junior Brody Christoffersen scored three runs on 3-of-4 hitting with a triple, two singles, and a walk, junior Eddie Jones scored three runs with a single and two walks, while senior Austin Shugars and junior Carson Barlow scored two runs apiece.

In Friday’s tight squeeze victory over the Storm, the Clippers scored behind Whelchel’s three runs, and Christoffersen, Jones, and sophomore Rylan McNinch scored one apiece.

Junior Quinn Leffelman couldn’t get around the bases, but he was 3-of-4 at the plate with two singles and a double.

Amboy is now 2-1 on the young season.
